Week 4: Plant based office

It's a new year!

I know, 22 days late to the party, but 2023 was a lot to process, so here we are.

For the past six weeks, I've been grinding my teeth trying to get an essay together about my latest (and last) Vipassana experience. Last night I threw my laptop on the floor (metaphorically speaking) and decided to take a break. There are times when pushing through the discomfort gets you where you need to go, and there are times when that course of action will only result in a mouth guard and you better take a break and try something else.

Here I am, trying something else.

One thing that will change this year is my writing practice. After the non-fiction writing course I took last year I realized a couple of things. One, reading and discussing well-written stories, fiction or non-fiction, makes my fingers itch to write. Two, writing is a muscle I need to practice, and attempting a novel when I've barely written anything creative since the pandemic started is like going for a marathon when I need to learn the fundamentals of walking again.

This a long-winded way of saying I will start treating my little internet nook with a little more respect this year.

Another thing that is new for 2024 is my office. I've been based in Lisbon since 2020 and despite trying a number of coworking spaces, none of them have been right and I kept finding myself hunchbacked on the couch at home. But that has changed!

One week into Second Home and I think I've found my match. The natural light and the excessive number of plants create a garden vibe, which turns out to be the optimal setting for productivity. At least for me. And look, here I am, writing a casual post about nothing, just like it was 2012.
